Antique Ivory Sundial

ivory sun dial
  • Worlds earliest timekeeping device
  • First used in Egypt around 3500 BC

We might have a winner here!  The owners father picked it up in Germany during the war. Spoils of war baby.

Rick has seen a lot of sun dials, but nothing like this. Says 1662 on it, but they are not sure if that’s the date. Wow if it is 1662 that would be nuts!

This guy wants to pawn it for around $600 but it could be worth a fortune so Rick needs to call in an expert.

ok Rod is called in. This is know as a Nuremberg dial. Its an old fashon digital watch he says. It has a few different dials built into it. Pretty neat. Like the Swiss Army knife of sun dials.  Man this thing is no joke, could even tell time at night from the moon. Sweet!  This is the best one this guy has ever seen and is impressed. The piece that Rick popped out before is actually…. Wow its a piece that makes it become a weather vain!! nice

This guy is saying an avg one would go for 3-5K. This one could easily fetch $7,000 wooo hooooo!!

He asks $6500 for it and Rick says $3,000, then says $4,000, $4500 4200

Now to a gamble!! lol. Flip for it $4200 or $4500 Customer wins and DEAL for $4500

What a deal. The same sundial sold at auction at Christies 2 years ago for 34k.

Rick didn’t buy it. The owner just pawned it.

My mistake; was watching the show on reruns and it turns out he wanted to pawn it then when he found out the value, he sold it.

Just wondering what episode number this was. I totally want one – even if it’s a reproduction.

So I looked at christies, the $34k was a 16th century, and their 17th century (1600’s) was $3,500. still cool. It is on my wishlist.

I have an Ivory Sundial from the 1500’s. Don’t know what to do with it or how to get it appraised? Looks a lot like the one above, but older has the brass flag for the top which is hidden on the side. Any ideas?

To bad they didn’t check Christies Auction House. One of these sold for $34K two years ago. If it’s that good maybe he could have got $40k. That equals a $35,500.00 lose or gain for the The Pawn Stars.

lmao the custumer is a complete dummy why listen to some pawn star when some guy naned Rick tells you ill give little or nothing and you could go to a meuesum or online and make near a million bucks for a unique and sundial from nearly centuries ago i tell the people that come on this show are complete dumb asses. i’d never pawn anything.

  12. Mike says:

You guys make me crazy…is it authentically dated? What are the other functions besides sun dial, weather vane, compass and moon dial?

  13. Aireus says:

HeyJose I’ll buy that sun dial if you still have it?
